The Great Gatsby

Set in the post-Great War Long Island/New York world of the rich. The narrator, Nick Carraway, sympathetically records the pathos of Gatsby’s romantic dream which founders on the reality of corruption, the insulated selfishness of Tom and Daisy, and the cutting edge of violence.

The last time I read this book was when I was 19 years old. I couldn't understand much about it. 36 years later, I read it again. Now it all made sense. I can identify with Gatsby and feel his anguish, hopes, fears and joy. Life is not about living a dream but making a dream come true and when that dream is fulfilled, you realised it is actually a nightmare. It's best to be pragmatic and lead a simple life, even if you're filthy rich.

    🎯Полезно

At great times, Gatsby got everyone, but when he needed it the most, the only person who stayed was the person who loathed him right from the start. Life does not give us much of genuine people, I mean those who would stay until the edge. Well, Gatsby had his share of misdoings but that does not make him deserve what happened. He has loved and lost.
